What are the requirements to join the MDBC Student Internship Program (SIP)?
In order to join SIP you have to be a member of the Malaysian Dutch Business Council (MDBC).  If you are not yet a member, you can contact us regarding a one time non – member participation before membership is required.

How can we join the MDBC Student Internship Program (SIP)?
If your organization is already a member of MDBC, then simply download the Job Description template, complete the form, and send it to .  Those who are not yet members of MDBC will have to e mail us first regarding requirements for participation.

What type of students can we expect from the MDBC Student Internship Program (SIP)?
SIP interns come from a wide variety of backgrounds.  2nd, 3rd, and 4th year students from Universities of Applied Sciences and Bachelor’s and Master’s students from Academic Universities.  We place students with a background in Marketing Management, International Business, Business IT, Business Administration, Finance & Control, Information Science, Facility Management, Industrial Engineering & Management, Hospitality Management, Applied Psychology, and many more.

We work closely together with 12 partner universities in the Netherlands. So, regardless of the field of study, SIP can source the right candidate for you!  If the specific field of study you are looking for is not in our database, we will approach our partner universities to find the perfect match for you!

Can we choose between different candidates?
After you have filled in the Job Description template, we will send you a list of different candidates, depending on availability.  We can schedule a Skype interview with candidates if necessary.  If the right candidate is not there, don’t worry, we will provide you with a new options until you have found your preferred match.

What happens after the internship is confirmed?
After you have confirmed your preferred candidate, we will send a confirmation e mail to both parties.  After this, it is time to prepare for the intern’s arrival; We would like to recommend you start by providing the intern with the required information about the company, preparing a work space for the intern, appointing a supervisor, and commence the visa application.  MDBC will send the student practical information (e.g. about housing) as well. How can we apply for the work permit?
We always encourage companies to apply for a work permit for the intern and can even assist you in this process!  To apply for a work permit, your company needs to be registered with the Expatriate Services Division (ESD).  You will find more information about this in ‘Work Permit‘.

Does MDBC help students with finding accommodation?
MDBC supports the interns with several aspects during their internship.  We provide them with practical information about their stay here in Malaysia.  This includes information on accommodation, travel, cultural diversity and differences, and tourism.  MDBC is also their contact point in case they have any questions.  You will find more information about this in ‘SIP Company Experience‘.

Can the company, or student, contact MDBC in case something happens during the internship?
MDBC supports interns with several aspects during their internship.  Besides providing them with practical information, we are their contact point before, during, and (sometimes) after the internship.  If anything happens during the internship, MDBC is ready to help.  If required, MDBC can also act as a liaison between you, the student, and the university.  You will find more information about this in ‘SIP Company Experience‘.

How long is the internship?
The length of the internship depends on the student and requirements from their university.  Most students have an internship duration of 4.5 – 5 months.  You can always discuss the internship period with us.

When do most internships commence?
Most students start their internship in either February or September.  Some students have more flexibility and can commence at any time during the year.

Do we pay the intern an allowance?
We recommend that you pay the intern with a monthly allowance of RM 1,000 to cover part of their living costs.
